Terms of Use
Version 2026.11 · Effective November 1, 2026
By creating an account, signing in, or clicking I agree, you accept these terms.
1. What this site is
The Shared Shed is a website that helps neighbors organize informal tool lending. It is not a store, warehouse, rental shop, insurer, or escrow service. The operator of the site does not take possession of tools, inspect them, or stand in the middle of a loan.
2. Lending and borrowing is at your own risk
You lend and borrow at your own risk. Tools can be lost, stolen, damaged, defective, returned late, or used in a way that hurts someone. You accept those risks when you list a tool or request one.
3. The operator is not responsible
The Shared Shed, its operator, and anyone helping run the site are not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or defective items; for late returns; for injury or property damage from using a tool; for disputes between neighbors; or for listings that turn out to be wrong. You agree not to make a claim against the operator for those things.
4. Neighbors deal with each other
Each loan is between the owner and the borrower. Pickup, return, condition, repair, and replacement stay with them. The site may record what neighbors report. It does not collect money, decide fault, or force anyone to pay.
5. Your responsibilities
You must be 18 or older. You will only list tools you have the right to share, describe them honestly, use borrowed tools safely and legally, return them on time and clean, and tell the owner if something goes wrong. You will not use the site to sell, charge rent, or share anything illegal or unsafe.
6. No insurance or warranty
The site does not insure tools, people, or property. Listings and availability are offered as-is, without a promise that a tool is safe, suitable, or actually available when you want it.
7. Accounts
You are responsible for the email inbox you use to sign in. We may suspend or delete an account that is abused or that we believe is harming neighbors.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. The version you accept is recorded on your account. If we publish a new version, you will need to accept it before you keep using the site.
